Reaper Bones Black is a plastic polymer material, very durable and slightly flexible, but not as soft as the plastic used in Reaper's standard Bones figures. Although Reaper say you can paint Bones Black without priming, our experience is that this is the case if using their own paints, and in most other cases you should wash them in mild detergent with cool water, rinse and leave to dry before priming. The best primers to use are brush-one types or Army Painter aerosols (but not most other aerosols, because the solvents used can mean the primer never fully dries and leaves a sticky surface).
Any mould lines should be removed by lightly scraping them with a hobby knife or by filing, and any slight gaps between parts can be easily filled before painting with Milliput, Green Stuff or a similar modelling putty.
